What is Shiatsu Massage in Beauty & Day Spas in Chicago?

Spas in Chicago

Chicago is known as the “City that Works.” Chicago is situated at the bottom tip of Lake Michigan where winters are cold and summers are hot. Two point seven million residents share a common home and Chicago’s O’Hare airport is the second busiest in the world. With all this activity and crowding, Beauty and Day Spas in Chicago can be a wonderful retreat from life.
Anyone new to the Spa experience has to ask, “What is a Beauty and Day Spa”? The word ‘spa’ originated from the town of Spa, Belgium. The term is associated with water health cures. People have been seeking cures from medicinal bathing since pre-historic times. Different cultures throughout the world believe that bathing from a particular source of water results in spiritual and physical purification.
Beauty and Day spas in Chicago are becoming more and more popular today. For those of you who don’t use spas, beauty and day spas are where you (for a day) luxuriate in body treatments (such as sea salt scrubs and mud wraps), massages and facials. Beauty and day spas are retreats designed for quiet and relaxation.
One service offered at Beauty and Day Spas is Shiatsu massage. Shiatsu is the Japanese word for “finger pressure.” It is an alternative massage combining finger and palm pressure, stretches and other massage techniques. Shiatsu practitioners believe it is a method to help people relax and cope with stress and many other physical and emotional problems.
At beauty and day spas, shiatsu is typically performed on a futon mat while the client is fully clothed.
Many recipients of shiatsu massage at beauty and day spas feel their practitioners to be accepting, trustworthy and warm. After such massages, clients typically feel more calm and relaxed and better able to cope with life. There is also a great improvement in muscular/joint problems.
The underlying premise of shiatsu massage is that the fingers, palms and thumbs of the practitioner detect disharmonies in the energetic components of the body and perform actions to remedy the problems.
At beauty and day spas, the diagnostic stage of Zen Shiatsu moves through several layers. The practitioner first looks for signs in the client’s appearance and odor, in the sounds heard and in sensations felt by touch. The pulses in the wrists and other places are also examined as well the appearance of the tongue. The practitioner also asks questions and interprets the answers about the client’s health. The masseuse will also feel for energy imbalances coming from internal organs in and around the abdomen. Illness is believed to be caused by external factors that invade the body and/or from emotional disharmonies.
