Bedbugs in Bedroom Furniture in Atlanta: How to Recognize them and How Did they Get Here

Bedroom Furniture Stores in Atlanta

Atlanta, Georgia has great bedroom furniture stores. Bedroom furniture stores in Atlanta are perfect places to try out various types of mattresses until you find the one that is, “just right.”

Along with bedroom furniture and mattresses comes the scourge of bedbugs. The bedbug has come out of retirement to make a new debut in modern life. When my generation went to bed at night our parents would say, jokingly, “Don’t let the bedbugs bite.” Little did we know what they meant by that statement. Their generation, which had endured the Great Depression, knew too well about the annoying little insects. They were common in bedroom furniture in Atlanta during the Great Depression.

How do you know if you have bedbugs in bedroom furniture?

·         Suspicious bite marks on your body

Bed bugs tend to leave bite marks in a straight line. Although they resemble mosquito or flea bites, they often appear in a series of three or four bites. These bites tend to itch and swell but try not to scratch too much. That can lead to infection. If you’re allergic to bed bugs, you may have a much greater reaction and will need medical treatment. Bedbug bites are red and often have a darker red spot in the middle. They live in bedroom furniture such as mattresses but also live on couches and throw pillows.

·         A sweet odor

Bedbugs leave behind a sickly sweet aroma in bedroom furniture, which some people describe as almonds or ripe raspberries.

·         Eggs in bedding or mattress

When the bug grows, it leaves behind its hard shell. Look in the seams of pillows and cushions. Look in the folds and creases in the bedding of bedroom furniture. Check under molding and peeling paint.

·         Bed Bug Feces on Bedding or Mattress

Look for a black trail of specks on your bedroom furniture mattress or bedding. You can find feces in mattress seams, pillow seams, furniture cushions and baseboards.

·         Red stains on bedding or mattress

The red stains are bed bugs that have been crushed. It is easier to see them if your linen is light colored but you should be able to see them even on darkly colored sheets.

·         How did they get here?

Bedbugs are hitchhikers. They travel on your belongings. After they dine on their human hosts in bedroom furniture, they can scoot into clothes or luggage left near the bed. You can bring them home from your travels. They can also travel between floors and rooms in apartment buildings and hotels.

·         Is it my fault?

Bedbugs don’t care if their environment is clean or dirty. If you have bedbugs, it’s no reflection on your hygiene or housekeeping skills. Even the cleanest of homes or hotels can harbor bedbugs.
